Hi, I have a security system that has an output of 12V at 1Amp when the alamr is active, I was hoping to power an ip camera from this, the power adapter on the cam has an output of 5Volts at 2Amp, Is there a simple way I can convert 12v1A to 5V2A? So if a DC power supply puts out a maximum of 10A at 12V, it would only require an input of about 1A at 120V to do that. Likewise, a 5V 10A PSU isn't going to draw more than like 0.5A at 120V. Itwould also be quite efficient (my guess 90%). If you need a 12v supply with a tight tolerance, and already have a stable 12v supply, then you could make your own 7.4v regulator quite easily with a circuit as below.
